There are no finer accommodations than the Casa Blanca Lodge on Ascension Bay located on Mexico’s world-renowned Yucatan Peninsula, but that is not why anglers return time and again. The shallow waters hardly conceal four species of coveted sport fish: Permit, Bonefish, Snook, and Tarpon. There are few places in the world where an angler can be challenged by all these fish on the same day. Anglers will enjoy battling Bonefish, Snook and Tarpon at Casa Blanca, but the Permit are what will bring them back time and again. Considered by many to be the ultimate flats fish, Permit test all an angler’s skills and are known for being elusive and difficult to fool. Permit forage on the bottom in the same waters as Bonefish amid reefs, pilings and other submerged sources of cover and will often only allow a single cast — so make it count. Indigenous to the western Atlantic, Permit use any and all cover they can find and cover great distances every day. But when they venture into the flats, the passing opportunity to hook into one is brief. Permit will test your skills as an angler and your equipment, as they are notoriously finicky about what they will eat.
About the Lodge
Casa Blanca has established itself as one of the world’s finest light tackle fishing lodges. Incomparable location, one of a kind fishery, superb facilities, delectable fare, outstanding equipment & professional staff are only some of the reason why Casa Blanca has become an operation to which all others compare. The lodge sits on the northern tip of a small coastal island in the western Caribbean called Isla Punta Pajaros. The actual lodge was the former staff quarters for coco plantation workers. Since remodeled, you will find that every room is one with a view. Each room has a different layout to accommodate to ones individual or group’s needs. The lodge also boasts a 100 yard long concrete pier. Under the lights at night you will find cruising tarpon and permit. Some of the best fishing happens right off the pier. Casa Blanca is the only lodge on Ascension Bay. It is as remote and pristine a location as you will find in this hemisphere. At Casa Blanca you are truly as far from the world and as close to “the way it was” as you will ever be. The Caribbean is only 100 feet away; all the rooms are seaside. Each room is spacious, well appointed, has remarkable views, air conditioning, tile floors, mahogany shutters and spacious baths. Casa Blanca has 11 seaside rooms wall with air conditioning and can accommodate 22 people comfortably. In the main lodge you will find a fully stocked bar and an accommodating bartender along with friends, old and new, swapping stories about the day’s fishing. Margaritas are the house specialty, but only a lucky few receive a scorpion garnish. Drinks are moderately priced and guests are welcome to keep an open tab for the week. After returning from a long day on the flats, reward yourself to a cool drink and enjoy some fresh ceviche or nachos under the palapa. After a shower, make your way to the dining room to enjoy the chef’s daily specialty. The menu varies from chicken, fresh fish, conch, lobster and of course, steak. The house specialty is fresh Caribbean seafood. You will always find the day’s catch simply and skillfully prepared. Garnished with native fruits and vegetables, presented to please your eye as well as your palate. All meals are served in the lodge’s waterfront dining room, at beautifully set tables, by professionally trained staff. Virtually Uninhabited the area surrounding Casa Blanca is wild, virtually uninhabited and extraordinarily beautiful. There are miles of shallow bays, secluded mangrove-rimmed lagoons, white sand beaches, and dense coastal jungle. Once you have been to Casa Blanca, take the time to explore its vast tropical landscape and experience the exquisite isolation, you will find that it will remain with you long after you have boarded your plane and returned home to civilization. Casa Blanca is truly unforgettable … one of those rare places you will want to return to again and again until you have made it your own. All drinking water and water used for ice is purified using the “reverse osmosis” process. You will find drinking water in your room in a cooler which is filled daily. The water from the tap is from a natural well, or “cenote”; the locals drink it; we recommend that you do not. Please help us by conserving the water whenever possible. All electricity at the lodge is provided by generators which operate daily from approximately 3:30 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. This schedule will vary seasonally; in the spring and summer, the generators are operated all night to power the fans.
