Jack Charlton has returned amid cheers from anglers around the world and introduced a new series of saltwater reels.
The new MAKO reels are available in four sizes and five versions, and most reels have a choice of two spools, each of which is laser engraved with its model and line capacities. The Model 9500 with a four-inch diameter accommodates line weights 8 - 10 with the standard spool and a shallow spool exclusively for an 8 weight. The 9550 is a four and a half inch diameter reel with spools for both 8 - 10 and 10 - 12 weight lines. The 9600 is 5 inches in diameter and is designed to mount 12 - 15 weight lines. The 9700B (Blue water) is a whopping five and a half inches in diameter and is carefully designed to provide maximum retrieve rates on the largest big game. The 9700S (Spey) is modeled after the "B" model but with a drag system more appropriate for Spey fishing, a lighter overall weight and more voluminous spools for the largest Spey lines. All reels continue the Jack Charlton design and quality features of the legendary Signature Series reels such as the full o-ring seals and proprietary carbon-impregnated Teflon lip seals; oversized calibrated drag knobs with one turn stop to stop, which provides the full range of drag; the multi-disk, full-contact, carbon-fiber drag system that employs the "button technology" to eliminate start-up friction; "taperloc" quick-change spools; and a three-ball-bearing spindle assembly. The new reels are meticulously produced to only the highest machining standards, and the polish and finish is second to none. Anodized finishes for all models are available in solid platinum, gold or black, or a choice of multi-colored variations of each. Solid black reels are available only in Type III Hard anodize, which provides an incredibly durable finish similar in tolerances to porcelain. MAKO reels are superior saltwater performers destined to take the largest inshore and offshore species yet priced competitively with today's better reels.
