One of the finest areas in which to enjoy saltwater fly fishing is reached by setting sail with Captain Jeff Becker and Captain Bob Turley from Orient Point on Long Island's North Fork. The area is the perfect place for newer anglers to develop their skills or for seasoned veterans to perfect their techniques. The waters' False Albacore, Bonito, Striped Bass, Tuna and Bluefish will give you a challenging fight three seasons of the year in a variety of environments -- off the beach, in the flats or from a boat in open water.
Though there are many fish roaming the waters of Long Island's North Fork, few are as challenging and rewarding to pursue as the False Albacore, Captain Becker's and Captain Turley's specialty. Built like machines, Albies are incredibly fast and can be found in groups ranging in size from three to seven individuals all the way up to hundreds or thousands -- but that doesn't necessarily mean you will have an easy time of bringing one in. Some fish allow anglers time to plan their attacks and take their time, but not Albies. If you want to bring one in, you better be ready to cast at a moment's notice because the fish will be gone as fast as they appeared and you'll be again trying to anticipate their next move. Catch one and you'll never forget it.
