Here it is. We heard you and we're delighted to deliver the NS 5 (the NS denoting 'no sanctuary'). Developed in close collaboration with our casting consultant Jonathan Huff this is a rod for big water and big fish - a rod for the Delaware, the Deerfield and the wider rivers of the West. A rod that takes inspiration from our fast action Vector series, configures it in to four pieces, increases modulus and tensile strength and blasts fast, five weight performance to a whole new level. We're quietly confident that this will be 'the five'.
The Technical Take
The NS 5 is the first Thomas & Thomas trout rod to be constructed using the highest modulus graphite and advanced resins available. These materials enabled us to significantly reduce blank diameter and subsequently swing weight. In doing so we created a rod that will cast streamers, weighted nymphs or bulky surface flies improbable distances with ease. Jonathan Huff explains the thought process behind the Thomas & Thomas NS 5,
"When I set out to drift the Delaware I do not want to have to take a full quiver of rods. I want one rod that will do it all - a fast action five with the backbone to cover both banks. That is what Tom Dorsey has delivered. This rod feels light in the hand, loads like a dream and suits the quick accelerated casting styles that more and more of my clients have become proficient at."
As well as the latest high modulus graphites and state of the art resins the NS 5 also features T&T's new RhinoTM paint finish offering a supremely hard, nick resistant finish resulting in additional strength benefits.
The Truth
This rod has quickly become the 'go-to' rod for a number of the guys here at the T&T factory -even a couple who thought they would fish their LPS's and Vector's for evermore. The versatility and performance at distance of the NS 5 cannot be overstated. The blank weighs in at 1.75 oz while the finished rod is 3.70 oz. Close to 2.00 oz of the rods overall weight is contained from the handle down to the butt.
Why do we go to length's to explain this? Frankly, we are tired of the current trend in assessing fine fly rods by their overall weight. It's the shaft weight that matters and effects castability. Premium grade cork weighs more than cork of inferior quality. T&T caliber reel seats weigh more than the reduced down reel seats that predominate on other brand rods. We mount our reel seats the 'old fashioned' way (the way that results in seats that don't slip and thus remain perfectly aligned). That's why you won't hear of quality issues with T&T cork or reel seats even after years of hard use. This rod brings you the benefit of reduced shaft weight and diameter without us having to compromise our desire to deliver rods that are built to use and built to last.
That's the truth. And that's the reason we've got a feeling the NS 5 will be 'the fast five trout rod you'll eventually own'.
"TNT" Switch • 10' 6wt - 10' 8wt
Thomas and Thomas has a new owner and is now back in full production with great intentions of filling the market with the best fly rods made in the world.
To start they have a new line of rods called the "TNT". They range in sizes from 7wt-12wt. They are the lightest rods on the market boasting a fast action and finished in a beautiful burgandy color. Also new from T&T are switch rods in 10' 6wt - 10' 8wt. These switch rods are very light and the most affluent casting rods we have ever felt. They throw double hand as good as they throw single hand. Aesthetically both of these rods are the prettiest rods you have ever seen. Also coming soon are some new prototype spey rods.

NEW Reels by Saracione, Danielsson and Hatch
As for new reels Danielsson came out with a new lightweight reel similar to the l5w but you can control the drag by palming or holding the outside of the frame. We also have an all platinum colored reel by Saracione . Perfect sizes to compliment switch rods or bamboo. We have two Hatch engraved reels a 5plus and a 7plus both with serial #24 out of 30
SARACIONE platinum colored reels.
2011 Atlantic Salmon Trips
